THE CHALLENGE:

Holoride is a revolutionary new gaming and entertainment platform that is bringing virtual reality and the metaverse to the backseat of cars. They came to us to help them add more depth and backstory to their first game title, “Cloudbreakers,” which was being developed by Jesse Schell and the incredibly talented team at Schell Games. The goal was to increase the player’s emotional connection to the game, while also creating IP that can become a TV series of film in the future.

THE SOLUTION:

We collaborated with Brent Friedman and Jeremy Breslau (collectively known as Force Multiplier) whose background includes writing for Star Wars: The Clone Wars and The Call of Duty franchise. We delivered a story bible with stunning visuals and 500 years of history for the story including main characters, enemies, and motivations. We then added characters and dialogue to the game itself to increase the emotional stakes for the player. We also developed the concept art for Skyjack in multiple configurations that were turned into 5,000 NFTs which could then be ported into the gameplay itself.

THE RESULTS:

The game and the platform have just been released, but they are already getting rave reviews—including being named “Best of CES 2023” by the Los Angeles Times.

Earth, 2119

It’s been nineteen years since The Jupiter War. A battle against an interstellar A.I. has left the population depleted and struggling for survival on a planet choked off from sunlight by malevolent weather. Earth, as we’ve known it, is unrecognizable. The oceans have receded, the water now trapped in the clouds; flora and fauna have largely died off, and perpetual darkness shrouds the planet’s parched surface.

DEV AND JACK

Dev, an engineering whiz and an orphaned teenager who lost his brilliant parents in The Jupiter War, is the youngest Cloudbreaker. Before his parents’ death, they put the finishing touches on an advanced droid, Jack, designed to protect their only child.

Gifted with his parents’ intelligence, Dev immersed himself in mathematics, physics, and engineering from a tender age. With Jack at his side, Dev was always busy stying and tinkering when not observing the Cloudbreakers.

After years of honing his tinkering skills, Dev devises a game-changing invention. Using magnets and repurposed anti-gravity technology from the downed Jupiter sentries, Dev transforms the rambunctious droind Jack, into Skyjack, a flying, weaponized, salvaging upgrade invisibly feathered to the front of his own craft.

CLOUDBREAKERS

Using scavenged anti-gravity tech and tethered to the ground with large chains, the floating aircraft carrier Haven acts as the staging platform for the Cloudbreakers. Once a month, as resources run low, the entire community celebrates Gather Day. With much fanfare, Haven is raised high above their canyon home of Arroyo Saco, once a deep-sea trench off the coast of Los Angeles, and is launched from the carrier’s flight deck. The Cloudbreakers’ goal is always the same: Gather as much debris from above the clouds as possible before their presence triggers the lethal Jupiter sentries.
